All Star Tutorial Blog Hop - Rustic Harvest Suite

Wednesday, October 05, 2022

Hello and welcome to my blog, I'm so glad you're here! I'm participating in this month's All Star Tutorial Blog Hop, featuring the Rustic Harvest Suite in our Holiday Catalogue.

I loved designing with this gorgeous stamp set and coordinating dies...I'm a huge fan of fall and creating cards with pumpkins just makes me happy. Each of the 12 design team members created a project for our All Star Video Tutorial Bundle (more on that below) and we created another project to share with you in our blog hop! Here's the card I'm sharing for today's hop:

rustic harvest black and white card

I love the simplicity of this layout and card - it really showcases the gorgeous patterned paper and the texture on the pumpkin. I'm a fan of black and white with a pop of colour, so this card is right up my alley! I actually pulled this layout from a card I had done previously - sometimes deciding on the layout is the part that takes me the longest. HOT TIP: find a card you've made or on Pinterest (give yourself no more than 5 minutes!) or in the catalogue and mimic the layout with whatever products you're using!

Here's how I made the card:
  • Black standard card base: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • White layer, embossed with the Leaf Fall Embossing Folder: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Add some splatter to the white layer using the brush end of a marker
  • TWO strips of coordinating patterned paper: 4 1/2" x 1 1/2"
  • Die cut the parts of the pumpkin using Crumb Cake and Old Olive cardstock
  • Heat emboss the sentiment in white on black cardstock - trim to size
  • Embellish with Black Gingham Ribbon and Black Classic Matte Dots

All Star Tutorial Bundle Blog Hop - Cottage Rose

Wednesday, September 07, 2022

Hello there and welcome to our All Star Tutorial Blog Hop featuring the Abigail Rose Suite!

I had so much fun designing with this suite, I can never get enough of pretty flowers and fonts, so this suite is totally my jam! This month, for our All Star Video Tutorial Bundle, each member of the design team created a project and an accompanying video and tutorial. Here's a sneak peek of the tutorial projects:

Aren't they just so pretty? Here's a close up of my project:

And here's my project for today's Blog Hop:

I decided to keep the background fairly neutral and opted for a soft grey and white floral pattern from the Designer Series Paper (which basically just means, pretty patterned paper). I cut the paper to the size of the size of the card base, as well as a layer of Smoky Slate cardstock that was also the same size as the base. I then used my Stitched Rectangles dies on that cardstock layer to create a frame for the card. I stuck this frame down with dimensionals to add some pop!

I then stamped, coloured and die cut the rose and leaf image as well as some additional leaves and added them to the card.

I heat embossed the sentiment in white on black cardstock, added some silver Elegant Trim and stuck down the sentiment. Lastly, I used the Iridescent Pearl Jewels to add some sparkle to the card.

It was a fairly quick and simple card to create, whipped it up in less than 10 minutes! When you have coordinating dies and stamps, it makes cardmaking so easy and effortless. Any questions or thoughts about this card? Please feel free to leave them in the comments below!

All Star Tutorial Blog Hop featuring the He's All That Suite!

Wednesday, August 03, 2022

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by my blog today! It's All Star Tutorial Blog Hop day, which means our design team will be bringing you oodles of inspiration for your cardmaking and papercrafting enjoyment!

Do you ever struggle with creating masculine cards for the special men in your life? If so, then you'll LOVE today's blog hop. We're featuring the 'He's The Man' Suite in the 2022-23 Annual Catalogue! This suite includes some awesome products that make creating masculine cards fun and easy! In fact, our whole tutorial bundle for this month features this suite and the design team has created some amazing projects. Here's a sneak peek of mine:

And here's my project for today's blog hop:

Here's how I created the card, which by the way, required NO stamping!
  • I started with a Crumb Cake card base and added some splatter using my Black Stampin' Write Marker
  • I used the Hive 3D Embossing Folder (one of my faves) to add some texture to a piece of black cardstock
  • I then used a couple of layers of the He's All That Designer Series Paper - this paper pack is PERFECT for masculine cards. Not only are the colours amazing, but there are so many different themes in this paper to cover a variety of interests
  • I added a pop of colour by die cutting a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock using a rounded rectangle from the All That Dies
  • For the sentiment, I used a die cut from the paper pack, as it was perfect for the card!
  • I held back a bit with the embellishments and just used a bit of black twine and a few black classic matte dots

In case you get stumped with creating masculine cards, here are FIVE tips that have helped me:
  1. Lean towards neutral colours - black, grey, tan, blue, green...all lend themselves nicely to masculine cards
  2. Use geometric patterns - try stripes, plaid, diamonds, etc - stay away from florals and hearts (unless of course, your man digs it)
  3. Add texture - masculine cards are great for adding texture using embossing folders - go for geometric patterns, wood grain, brick, stripes, etc
  4. Use simple layouts - no need to add a ton of layers or complicate the layout - simple layouts for the win!
  5. Hold back with the embellishments - yep, I said it. If you want to use some embellishments, I'd recommend twine over ribbon and small matte/brushed metal gems instead of pink sparkly ones

For our tutorial bundle this month, each member of the design team has created a PDF and video tutorial of a project featuring this suite. Here's a sneak peek of the projects in this month's All Star Tutorial Bundle featuring the He's All That Suite:
