Love of Leaves

Thursday, September 03, 2020

Hey there crafty friend!

Are you getting excited/ready for fall? Around here (in Ontario), we're seeing cooler temperatures and feeling the back to school buzz. This year, back to school obviously feels different, and is ridden with a bit of fear and anxiety of what it'll look like and what the experience will be for children, parents and teachers alike. Having said that, we are also really looking forward to having the kids in a bit of a routine that involves actually leaving the house and seeing their friends and teachers, so we're trying to focus on that mostly.

Fall crafting is especially exciting for me, I love all things leaves and pairing them with rich colours and textures to create pretty cards and crafts to give to others. I'm sharing with you today, two projects using the Love of Leaves Bundle, new in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalogue. I made these projects in my Weekly Facebook Live, the video replay link is included down below.

I won't lie, I didn't order this bundle at first, thinking I didn't need it. However, after seeing so many beautiful projects on Pinterest and Google, I couldn't wait to get it! I love so many things about this bundle: the leaf images are gorgeous and look so real, the sentiments are versatile and perfect for any occasion, the dies cut out the leaves, so no fussy cutting (yay!), the dies also create a stitched veining detail on the leaves. This bundle has become a favourite, you might see me creating with it ALOT.

Here are the cards I made, in two different colour schemes:

Details for this card (measurements in inches):
  • Very Vanilla Thick card base: 5.5 x 8.5, score at 4.25
  • Plaid Tidings Designer Series Paper: 4 x 5.25
  • Very Vanilla cardstock: 4.5 x 3.25, embossed using the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder. Add splatter effect using ink and a waterpainter (see video to see how I did this)
  • Stamp and cut the leaves in Bumblebee Ink and either Pretty Peacock or Rich Razzleberry, depending on the colour scheme you're using
  • Cut a leaf from Brushed Metallic Cardstock
  • Stamp sentiment on a piece of Crumb Cake: 0.75 x 2.75; punch the ends using Pick a Banner Punch
  • Assemble card and embellish with a gold trim bow and gold metallic pearls

I also decorated a Rectangular Tin (also new in our Holiday Catalogue) using the Gilded Autumn Designer Series Paper and the Love of Leaves bundle. These tins are about the size of Altoids tins and are large enough to hold all sorts of treats and goodies.

This project is super easy to replicate, here are the details:
  • Gilded Autumn DSP - cut and wrap both pieces around tin
    • 8 x 2.5
    • 8 x 1.5
  • Brushed Metallic Cardstock Stitched Circle - adhere to DSP
  • Stamp and cut leaves; adhere to tin in layers
  • Tie a bow with gold trim and adhere using Glue Dot
  • Cut out a Very Vanilla scalloped circle using the Tasteful Labels Dies; stamp sentiment and adhere using dimensionals
