Happiest of Birthdays - three simple cards!

Thursday, July 23, 2020

Hey there crafty friends!

Thanks for stopping by today, happy to have you here! Today I'm sharing three simple cards starring the Happiest of Birthdays Stamp Set. It's a relatively new stamp set and was released in the Annual Stampin' Up! catalogue this June. I love the fonts and messages of the sentiments, it's perfect for simple or stepped up birthday cards! And who doesn't need those??

I made these cards during my weekly Facebook Live, I've included the video replay link below.

As you can see, this stamp set is perfect for simple cards, which use just a few supplies - stamps, paper and ink - this makes it perfect for anyone, beginner to avid. You can also use it to create a slightly more stepped up project, as you can see from the Fun Fold Gift Card Holder card (try saying that 5 times fast)!

Here's the first card, using just some cardstock, designer paper and ink!

Details:

  • Purple Posy card base: 4 1/4" x 11", score at 5 1/2"
  • Cut a matching layer of cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4"
  • Cut your designer series paper to 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
  • Adhere your designer series paper to the cardstock layer. Wrap ribbon around the layer and tie a bow. Adhere to your card base
  • Stamp your sentiment in Night of Navy onto a die cut piece (I used the Stitched So Sweetly dies) or simply cut out a rectangle using your trimmer
  • Using dimensionals, attach your sentiment to your card. Embellish as you wish!

Here's the second card...I used the new Camouflage Background stamp, I just LOVE it! I'm imagining this stamp on so many different colours, I just love camo anything 😍

Details:
  • Seaside Spray card base: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", score at 4 1/4"
  • Cut a matching layer of cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4"
  • Using the camouflage (or any background stamp), stamp the card layer to create a cool background. Adhere this to your card base.
  • Stamp your sentiment in Night of Navy onto a die cut piece (once again, I used the Stitched So Sweetly dies) or simply cut out a rectangle using your trimmer
  • Cut two pieces (edit: add measurements) of Denim ribbon and secure to the back of the sentiment piece on an angle using dimensionals. Adhere to your card
  • Colour the Epoxy Droplet embellishments using the dark Seaside Spray Stampin' Blend. Once dry, adhere to your card.
And finally, here are the dimensions of the Fun Fold Gift Card Holder! While it involved a little more paper and cutting than the first two, it's still fairly simple to make!

Details:
  • Cardstock:
    • Purple Posy: 4 1/4" x 11", score at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2"
    • Purple Posy: 3 1/2" x 9", score at 4 1/2"
    • Whisper White: 3 1/4" x 4 1/4"
    • Night of Navy - Stitched so Sweetly dies or cut a rectangle using your trimmer
  • Designer Series Paper:
    • 3" x 4" (gift card holder insert piece)
    • 3 1/4" x 1/2" (decorative strip for inside of card)
    • 2 1/4" x 4" (front of card)
Instructions:
  • Cut and score your paper according to measurements above
  • Heat emboss your sentiment in white onto your Night of Navy rectangle, set aside
  • Start by assembling the smaller folded cardstock. Stamp your sentiment onto the white cardstock and adhere to inner bottom panel of the folded cardstock.
  • Using any circle punch (I used 1"), punch a half circle at the top of your designer series paper piece measuring 3" x 4". Using Tear & Tape, adhere to top inner panel of the folded cardstock.
  • On the front panel of the folded cardstock, wrap ribbon around and tie a bow. Adhere your sentiment using Dimensionals
  • Now let's move onto the larger folded cardstock: with your score lines at the bottom, fold up along the 5 1/2" score line and fold down on the 2 3/4" score line - this will create your easel
  • Adhere the designer series paper piece measuring 2 1/2" x 4" to the front panel
  • Take your gift card holder piece and adhere it to the base, so that the crease is about 1/2" below the top of the card. Once your two bases are attached and they are lying flat on your surface, put a mini dimensional underneath the bottom of the gift card holder piece. Add on a small die cut star (or shape of your choice) to hold the bottom flap in place.
And that's all! I hope you'll give it a try, it was super fun and easy to make! It may help to watch the video to see how the Fun Fold Gift Card Holder came together.

You're Kind of a Big Deal - Global Design Project #249

Thursday, July 16, 2020

Hey friends,

I've been loving having some extra time to play with my new stamps, ink and paper, BUT I have more stuff than I have time to play with 😁 so I went back to the stash to see what I hadn't used in a while...

I decided to play with one of the first suites I fell in love with in the Stampin' Up! Annual Catalogue, the Whale of a Time Suite! I love everything about this suite - the stamps, the matching punch, designer paper, sequins, ribbon...I love it all. And as a matter of fact, I actually used all of the products in this suite on my card today!

The colour palette for my card was inspired by Global Design Project Challenge #249, it's a colour challenge. The colour combo was so pretty and instantly caught my eye, I couldn't resist playing along!

This suite lends itself perfectly to creating a shaker card, so that's what I did. Truth be told, I've maybe made shaker cards 2 times (at the most) in the 7 years I've been paper crafting, but I was feeling a little bold and adventurous ;) The Foam Adhesive strips make it a cinch to create an aquarium like window with the gorgeous sequins moving around inside.

I've listed the steps below...don't fret, it looks like many steps, but I've broken them down in hopes of simplifying the process, should you decide to make this card or something similar!

Here's how I made this card:
  1. Cut your Petal Pink Cardstock to 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and score at 4 1/4"
  2. Cut a piece of designer paper to 4 3/4" x 3 1/2"
  3. Cut a piece of Pool Party Cardstock at 5" x 3 3/4" and emboss using the Seabed Embossing Folder
  4. Using the Stitched Rectangles dies, cut out a rectangle from the centre of the embossed piece. Keep the rectangle for another project!
  5. Cut a piece of your window sheet at 4 7/8" x 3 5/8" and adhere to the back of your rectangular frame. Adhere foam strips in a rectangle just outside the window on the back of the frame.  Take care to ensure that it can't be seen in the 'window' of the card and that there are no gaps at the corners.
  6. Laying the designer paper flat on your surface, add several sequins towards the middle of the side you want showing through the window.
  7. Add a few drops of liquid glue randomly on your designer paper and adhere a few individual sequins.
  8. Peel off the backing from your foam strips and position the frame over the designer paper. Once it's in position, adhere it to the designer paper and apply gentle pressure to stick the foam strips down.
  9. Using your liquid glue, adhere the shaker layer onto your card base.
  10. Stamp the whale onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock in Blackberry Bliss Ink. Adhere to the corner of your frame.
  11. Heat emboss the sentiment in white onto Misty Moonlight Cardstock. Using the circle from the Tasteful Labels dies, cut out sentiment.
  12. Put some adhesive on the back of your adhesive and adhere ribbon in a 'z' shape. Adhere to card using dimensionals.
  13. Embellish with a few sequins and voila!

I think this card is perfect for all ages and almost all occasions...I think I'll need to recreate another before I give it away, I kinda love it...

Thanks so much for popping by today, I would LOVE for you to leave a comment below to let me know what you think of the card!

If you'd like to order any Stampin' Up! supplies and live in Canada, I would love for you to choose me as your demonstrator.

Have a crafty day!

Nothing's better than...

Wednesday, July 08, 2020

Hello friends!

It's been a hot minute since I last blogged - thanks for your patience with me - I've still been crafting up a storm though! Thanks for dropping by today, I'm grateful you're here!

It's now been almost 4 months since the shut down happened here in Ontario and schools and many businesses closed their doors. At the beginning of this pandemic, I seemed to have so much more time for activities such as cleaning and organizing, reading, watching movies and of course, BAKING! It's probably just as well that I've cut down on the baking, but today I was having the worst craving for chocolate chip cookies. I found the most amazing recipe on Pinterest and made these a few times...BEST. COOKIES. EVER. Click here for the recipe.

Speaking of cookies, I'm crafting today with a fun new stamp set and die bundle called 'Nothing's Better Than ________'. What favourite thing would you fill in the blank with? Cookies? Coffee? Chocolate? Cocktails? All of the above? I mean, what else is there in life??

I love this bundle for it's combination of images and sentiments that seem to describe my feelings perfectly. My favourite is: "Cocktails: Because Adulting is Hard". Am I right mamas?

Here are three fun projects I created using this bundle.

If you missed my Facebook Live crafting show, you can catch the replay here

cookie cards, quick and easy crafts, mom and child crafts, 15 minute crafts, stampin up, stampin up markham, how do i make a cookie card, nothing's better than

On this first project inspired by a sample from Stampin' Up, I featured a plate of cookies and a sentiment that implies I eat cookies everyday. I actually don't, but I thought the sentiment was cute. I DO in fact, drink coffee everyday, but that's a project for another day...

Here are the instructions:
  1. Cut your card base to 5.5" x 8.5", score at 4.25"
  2. Cut a piece of Petal Pink Cardstock to 4.25" x 3.75", slice the edge on a diagonal using your Paper Trimmer
  3. Emboss the Petal Pink piece using the Tasteful Textile Embossing Folder and adhere to your card base.
  4. Cut out the circles using the Layering Circles dies to create a plate, stick these onto your card.
  5. Stamp and cut out 7 cookies. Stamp off the two step image of the cookie to get a lighter image.
  6. Cut out 'cookies' using the coordinating dies and attach to your card. Stick the cookies on flat, using a dimensional on the last cookie
  7. Stamp the rest of the sentiment and embellish with a bow.
Here's my second project, which just makes me long for tropical drinks on a beach, the sound of waves crashing and not having to worry about wearing masks and put on copious amounts of hand sanitizer...oh how I wish...

Here are the instructions:
  1. Stamp 'Cocktails' repeatedly on a diagonal in Coastal Cabana ink onto Coastal Cabana Cardstock (5 1/8" x 3 7/8"), adhere to black layer (4" x 5.25").
  2. Wrap Linen Thread three times around layer and tie in a bow. Adhere layer to card base
  3. Stamp two cocktail glasses in black ink onto Whisper White. Stamp the two step stamp first in Daffodil Delight ink and use a sponge dauber to add some Flirty Flamingo ink to the bottom, creating a two-toned look to the drink. Clean off your stamp and repeat with Granny Apple Green and Coastal Cabana Ink.
  4. Cut out using the coordinating dies and adhere to label.
  5. Heat emboss "because adulting is hard" in white onto black card stock. Cut and adhere to label using small dimensional pieces.
  6. Cut a small piece of Daffodil Delight ruched ribbon and fold and adhere to the back. Using dimensionals, attach to your card. Embellish with rhinestones!
The third and final project uses the new Stampin' Up! Mini Paper Pumpkin boxes, perfect for filling with treats and decorating! Here's how I made it:

  1. Assemble your box. Wrap a piece of 4.75" x 12" patterned paper around the box and stick at the bottom. I used the In Good Taste Designer Series Paper
  2. Cut a 22" piece of the Lace Trim and using a Dark Rococo Rose Stampin' Blend, colour the trim. Allow to dry for a few minutes.
  3. Cut out 'chocolate' using Soft Suede Ink. Punch out a white heart and a Rococo Rose Scalloped Heart.
  4. Adhere the die cut 'chocolate' to the white heart and stamp the rest of the sentiment as shown, in Pear Pizzazz Ink.
  5. Stamp the chocolate outline stamps two times each in three colours: Soft Suede, Pear Pizzazz and Rococo Rose. Stamp off the two step stamp of the chocolate image before stamping over the outline stamp. Cut the chocolates using the dies and adhere to your box.
  6. Wrap ribbon around and tie a bow. Adhere the heart layer using dimensionals.
