Wednesday, August 03, 2022

Hello and thanks so much for stopping by my blog today! It's All Star Tutorial Blog Hop day, which means our design team will be bringing you oodles of inspiration for your cardmaking and papercrafting enjoyment!

Do you ever struggle with creating masculine cards for the special men in your life? If so, then you'll LOVE today's blog hop. We're featuring the 'He's The Man' Suite in the 2022-23 Annual Catalogue! This suite includes some awesome products that make creating masculine cards fun and easy! In fact, our whole tutorial bundle for this month features this suite and the design team has created some amazing projects. Here's a sneak peek of mine:

And here's my project for today's blog hop:

Here's how I created the card, which by the way, required NO stamping!
  • I started with a Crumb Cake card base and added some splatter using my Black Stampin' Write Marker
  • I used the Hive 3D Embossing Folder (one of my faves) to add some texture to a piece of black cardstock
  • I then used a couple of layers of the He's All That Designer Series Paper - this paper pack is PERFECT for masculine cards. Not only are the colours amazing, but there are so many different themes in this paper to cover a variety of interests
  • I added a pop of colour by die cutting a piece of Crushed Curry cardstock using a rounded rectangle from the All That Dies
  • For the sentiment, I used a die cut from the paper pack, as it was perfect for the card!
  • I held back a bit with the embellishments and just used a bit of black twine and a few black classic matte dots

In case you get stumped with creating masculine cards, here are FIVE tips that have helped me:
  1. Lean towards neutral colours - black, grey, tan, blue, green...all lend themselves nicely to masculine cards
  2. Use geometric patterns - try stripes, plaid, diamonds, etc - stay away from florals and hearts (unless of course, your man digs it)
  3. Add texture - masculine cards are great for adding texture using embossing folders - go for geometric patterns, wood grain, brick, stripes, etc
  4. Use simple layouts - no need to add a ton of layers or complicate the layout - simple layouts for the win!
  5. Hold back with the embellishments - yep, I said it. If you want to use some embellishments, I'd recommend twine over ribbon and small matte/brushed metal gems instead of pink sparkly ones

For our tutorial bundle this month, each member of the design team has created a PDF and video tutorial of a project featuring this suite. Here's a sneak peek of the projects in this month's All Star Tutorial Bundle featuring the He's All That Suite:
