Stampin' Up! Butterfly Gala - A Handmade Gift Idea

Saturday, May 01, 2021

When it comes to gift giving, do you often find yourself scratching your head trying to think of ideas? I feel you! I'm also a bit of a 'last minute lucy' and am constantly scrounging for ideas at the last minute, so that doesn't help.

Giving and receiving cards has always held a great deal of importance in my family...since a very young age, my mother used to give me and my sisters cards that had the most beautiful poems/scripts written in them. Almost as though Hallmark had written them just for us. Because she had immigrated to Canada and English wasn't her first language, she would always say: I could never find the words to write like this so I buy cards that say what I mean. This might explain why I was instantly drawn to cardmaking when I was first introduced to it. As soon as I started, I knew I needed to create space in my life for cardmaking. I also told my mom she would never have to buy a card again, but might need to learn to write her own beautiful messages.

So with Mother's Day around the corner, I have a few ideas up my sleeve to surprise my mom and make her day special even though we can't celebrate together. As part of her gift, I'll be giving her this box of cards - not only is it so pretty to receive, but it's super functional as she can use the cards to give to others.

This may sound weird but I just can't stop looking at the cards, aren't they just so airy and pretty?

The cards were so simple to make using just a few Stampin' Up! products. You can find a full supply list and links directly to the products at the end of this post.

To create the cards, I used some cardstock, a few sheets of patterned paper, a black ink pad and our Butterfly Gala stamp set and our Butterfly Duet Punch. Both of these products will be retiring and no longer available after May 3rd. The punch is also on SALE!

Here are the details on the card:
  • Start with a card base that measures 5 1/2 x 8 1/2", score at 4 1/4"
  • Cut two pieces of coordinating Designer Series Paper (or patterned paper) that measure 2 1/2 x 5 1/4" and 3 x 4"
  • Stamp the greeting on any die cut or punched label or even just a piece of white cardstock cut into a rectangle
  • Stamp the butterfly on a coordinating piece of coloured cardstock and punch out using the punch
  • Assemble the pieces using your preferred adhesive and embellish with gems and twine or ribbon

For the box:
  • I used the Clear Acetate Boxes in our Stampin' Up! Catalogue - they take less than a minute to assemble and can hold 5 cards and envelopes
  • Cut two strips of DSP: 2 x 11" and 1 x 11"
  • Wrap the wider strip around the box and then the narrower
  • Add your sentiment and embellish as you wish
